Are we asking too much of Smart Phones?

I love the Tech of Smart-Phones. I love having a mini-computer in my hands. Yet, one has to ask, is it still first a communication device, or something else? The cameras are great considering the size. Yet, now we have video at 4K, or Pro-Res, etc. We have computer-grade chips in phones and we always hear of over-heating issues. Maybe, just maybe, we could go back to it being primarily a communication device. I know, we 'want'. To use a Star Trek phrase by Mr. Spock from the episode 'Amok Time', "After a time, you may find that having, is not so pleasing a thing, as wanting." Very true, this statement. We want this or that, but we never seem to be satisfied. This seems to be the Human Condition, at least in First World Nations. We have forgotten what true 'want' really is. We've lost sight of just how good we have it. even the Poor in Western Nations, for the most part, have that which the poor of so-called 'Lesser Nations' can only dream of.

This smartphone issue is a microcosm of a greater issue. Simple gratitude for that which is right in front of you. A smartphone or computer has answers at your fingertips. You don't have to work for it really. When I was a kid, if I really wanted to dig into something, it was off to the Public Library to look through books and Encyclopedias for the information I wished to study. It took an investment in time and effort. Today? Type in a question or use the voice assistant on the phone. Instantaneous! No effort. Given knowledge is never as satisfying or as useful as learned knowledge. We need to re-discover this. I think we will. The Hard Way. We as a Society have grown decadent and lazy. We seem to think we're somehow entitled to the best of everything for next to nothing. We don't want to have to earn it. After all, we're First Worlders!

I have a lifetime of experiences that have taught me to be grateful for everything I have as I know it can be gone in a moment. I take joy in almost every moment of my day and find a reason to smile frequently in amazement at life and the things associated with it. I thank God throughout each and every day because I am AMAZED at His provision. We need more of that. A time is coming when what we have and what we can get will be drastically reduced. It happens to every nation that progresses from struggle to ease. Eventually, said Nation ALWAYS collapses under its own weight of hubris and self-entitled laziness.

Ramble Ends.
